Weekly Token of Wisdom

“It has taken years to continue to live into the truth that if I believe we are from God and for God, then we are from Goodness and for Goodness. To greet sorrow today does not mean that sorrow will be there tomorrow. Happiness comes too, and grief, and tiredness, disappointment, surprise and energy. Chaos and fulfilment will be named as well as delight and despair. This is the truth of being here, wherever here is today. It may not be permanent but it is here. I will probably leave here, and I will probably return. To deny here is to harrow the heart. Hello to here.”

Greetings, and welcome to the online space I have been curating! Across these pages, you will find poetry, editorial pieces, and other essays I have written, film photos I wish to share, as well as historical documents or other resources I feel it is important to gather in one place. I hope you encounter something that resonates with you. Thank you for spending time here.

I, Julia (she/her), 27, was born and raised in San Pedro, CA. I enjoy exploring the world through text, cuisine, conversation, on foot, atop a mat, with my hands in the soil, and more recently, behind the lens of a camera. This blog (of sorts) is my commitment to another deep and evolving love for the written word.

My formal education includes a B.A. in Political Economy from UC Berkeley and an M.A. in Global Environmental Policy from American University. Though I have met many of my greatest teachers―camp counselors, farmers, poets, community organizers, activists, spiritual leaders, and broadly, people of great courage―beyond the walls of a classroom. It is only through their invaluable gift of mentorship, that I have discovered my own will to speak from and of the heart.
